MUHAMMAD K. RAQIB

Born and raised in Washington, DC’s inner city, Muhammad Raqib struggled to reach a point of triumph unparalleled by many of his peers. His road to success was paved by many of life’s inner-city obstacles such as poverty, drugs, thug life, juvenile delinquency, crime, low educational motivation, violence, and death. Muhammad’s strength, willpower, passion, and loving nature, coupled with a supportive foundation of loving family, friends, coaches, and mentors have helped him become the great man he is today. Muhammad has over 30 years working with youth, schools, families, and communities. Muhammad is presently the Lead Motivator/Lead Empowerment Mentor of Real Men Talk (Motivational Empowerment Group). He served as lead counselor/rites of passage coordinator for the Southern Illinois Edwardsville East St. Louis Center TRIO Upward Bound program for two years. Muhammad also served as Program Director of the Southern Illinois Edwardsville East St. Louis Center TRIO Educational Talent Search program for four years. He is also Senior Empowerment Specialist with Real Men Talk (Motivational Empowerment Group). From 2006-2017, Muhammad was the rites of passage coordinator and lead empowerment motivator for all SIUE East St. Louis TRIO Programs. Mr. Muhammad in 2007 and 2015-2016 participated in and chaperoned students at the Southern Illinois University Carbondale Paul Simon Public Policy Institute “Metro East Youth Leadership Weekend” as an Empowerment Mentor and Rites of Passage Coordinator. In 2008 and 2011 Muhammad participated and helped coordinate the Antonio Soberanis Belizean Central American Youth Expedition as a Gang Prevention Specialist. From 2012-2014, Muhammad worked as a mentor and motivational teacher for the Sweet Potato Project Summer Enrichment Program. He also worked as Volunteer (Youth Mentor) for Imani Rites of Passage & Company Boys to Men Training, St. Louis, MO (2013-2015). He worked as a Volunteer (Youth Mentor), Give Respect, Get Respect (Diversity Awareness Program) St. Louis, MO (2006-2009). He has over 30 years of volunteering experience with the Special Olympics. Since middle school, Muhammad has over 29 years of experience as a Motivational Speaker/ Workshop Facilitator across the United States. One of the great passions for working with youth was due to two personal tragic events in Muhammad’s life. In 1999 and 2004 his two younger brothers, Said Raqib and Imtiaz Mohammed were both shot and killed in the same neighborhood in Washington, DC. Their deaths sparked a drive in Muhammad that couldn’t be stopped. Through his brother’s deaths, he channeled his energy and personal time to mentoring and saving the lives of various young men and women. Muhammad holds a B.A. degree from Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, NC and an M.S. Ed-Educational Leadership degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
