David Trigaux

David Trigaux is a non-profit leader who keeps his toes in politics. David runs the Washington Urban Debate League (WUDL), a D.C. based non-profit that supports making high impact debate programs accessible to every student in publicly funded schools, especially those serving under-resourced populations in the greater D.C. region. Under his leadership, the organization has grown from a dedicated board and single staff member (David) serving a hundred students at seven schools to serving thousands of students and more than 50 schools each year. The WUDL is recognized as one of the best local nonprofits by the Greater Washington Catalogue of Philanthropy, and the Urban Debate League of the Year by the National Association of Urban Debate Leagues.  David was recently named one of the National After-school Association’s (NAA) Next Generation Leaders for 2019.

David does a little bit of everything for the league, from writing curriculum and direct instruction of teachers and students to grant writing, volunteer management, and fundraising. David has coached debate for more than a decade, and while he believes that the greatest benefits of the activity aren’t tied to wins and losses, his students have achieved competitive success, including many qualifiers to the Tournament of Champions (TOC), NSDA, NCFL, FFL, and the Urban Debate National Championship. Many of David’s former students attended college on debate scholarships.

Outside of debate, David has worked in politics, as a consultant, researcher, and campaign staffer. He recently consulted with the National Democracy Institute (NDI) to design international debate and civic education curriculum and served on the Board of Pay Our Interns, an advocacy organization promoting the paid internship model for the public and private sector. He recently assisted several political candidates running for local office here in D.C.
