JUDGE CASSANDRA KIRK

 Chief Magistrate Judge Cassandra Kirk was appointed by Governor Nathan Deal to serve as Chief Magistrate Judge of the Fulton County Magistrate Court on December 29, 2014. She previously served as an Associate Judge with the Fulton County Juvenile Court, having been appointed on June 11, 2010.

Judge Kirk began her career as a labor and employment attorney with the firm formerly known as Stokes & Murphy, PC, an Atlanta-based labor and employment boutique, specializing in the hospitality, food service and manufacturing industries. Miss Kirk came to the bench after more than 15 years in public service. She served as an Assistant District Attorney in both the Alcovy and the Atlanta Judicial Circuits and served as Director of Legal Services for the Georgia Merit System. Her juvenile experience included service as a juvenile defense attorney, attorney for the Department of Family and Children Services and as a Supervising Child Attorney.

As Juvenile Court judge, Judge Kirk spearheaded the establishment of Choices, Fulton County’s first Juvenile Drug Court program. In September 2014, Choices was identified as one of 12 sites to participate in a nationwide, multi-year Learning Collaborative with the NCJFCJ (National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges). Judge Kirk was the first judge in Georgia to become a certified Child Welfare Law Specialist and is also a certified NADCP (National Association of Drug Court Professionals) Consultant, an Office of Justice Programs peer reviewer and, a member of the NCJFCJ Juvenile Treatment Drug Courts Team of trainers.

Judge Kirk serves as a Deacon at North Avenue Presbyterian Church and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Association of Counsel for Children and StreetGrace, a non-profit aimed at eradicating domestic minor sex trafficking. Judge Kirk, an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., also serves in numerous leadership capacities, professionally and in her community.

Judge Kirk received her B.A. from Williams College and her J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law.
