Vickie Newton, Mistress of Ceremonies

Vickie Newton is an instructor in the Mass Communications Department at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, an HBCU.

Vickie is a veteran journalist who started her broadcast news career in Little Rock at KATV-TV. She reported and anchored the news in Kansas City, Detroit, Atlanta, and St. Louis. Vickie has also anchored and reported at two networks: CNN and SSN-TV, an African American network headquartered in Little Rock.

She is an Emmy award-winning anchor and reporter as well as the recipient of numerous awards and honors throughout her 30-year television news career. In 2010 Vickie founded the online magazine, TheVillageCelebration which is a content provider for urban news outlets like Newsone. In 2012 TheVillageCelebration was a finalist for a “Salute to Excellence” award from the National Association of Black Journalists.

Vickie has been a member of Links, Incorporated since 1995. She also served as a member of the Music Panel of the National Endowment for the Arts.

Vickie will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies for the opening ceremonies of The National Youth Summit.
