RICHARD ROSENFELD

Richard Rosenfeld is Founders Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Missouri St. Louis, where he has taught for 25 years. He has written or edited several books and more than 100 articles and chapters on the social sources of violent crime, crime and the economy, racial disparities in policing, and criminal justice policy. He is a Fellow and past President of the  American Society of Criminology and was appointed by Attorney General Eric Holder to serve on the Science Advisory Board of the Office of Justice Programs, US Department of Justice. He is currently the principal investigator on a partnership to improve public safety involving the St. Louis Office of  the Mayor, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, and the University of Missouri – St. Louis. Professor Rosenfeld received his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Oregon and pursued post-doctoral studies in Criminology at Carnegie-Mellon University

Ferguson and the Police Use of Force

This workshop describes the socioeconomic characteristics and crime rates of Ferguson, MO, and considers the Michael Brown killing in light of recent research on the police use of force.
